On Saturday, March 17th, the All Stars Talent Show Network kicked off the first neighborhood performance of the 2012 season at Orange Preparatory Academy. Seven year old K'lynn Jackman from Orange, NJ won the grand prize by belting out a wonderful rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."
Led by NJ Board member Jeff Hurwitz, 19 donors and supporters attended the event and presented the All Stars Distinguished Leader Awards to sixteen dedicated young producers.
The Castillo Theatre is holding its fourteenth annual Otto René Castillo Awards for Political Theatre on Sunday, May 20 at the Castillo Theatre at 543 West 42nd Street (between 10th and 11th Avenues) in New York City at 2:00 p.m. The "Ottos", named after Guatemalan poet and revolutionary Otto René Castillo, recognize the achievement of individuals and theatre companies who conceive, produce and foster the development of innovative and socially challenging theatre. This year's honorees include: Ajoka Theatre, Hector Aristizábal, John O'Neal, Sistren Theatre Collective and Urban Bush Women.
The All Stars Project (ASP) held its national gala benefit entitled, Big Builders for Young People, on Monday, May 7, at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. Celebrating over 30 years of success of afterschool programs for inner city youth, the All Stars Project raised $2 million to benefit the All Stars' innovative afterschool youth development programs. The evening's honorees included Bart M. Schwartz, Esq. Chairman, Guidepost Solutions and Gregory A. Tosko, Vice Chairman, CBRE Tri-State Region for their work in creating new possibilities for youth and communities in especially bold and visionary ways.
On Tuesday, March 6th, Bart Schwartz, Chairman & CEO of Guidepost Solutions led a workshop with 22 students of the All Stars Project part of our Development School for Youth Program. Bart and three senior staff of Guidepost spoke with students about the global investigations and security industry, explaining what their industry does and exposing students to advances in the use of DNA and how their firm builds a client base.
On Tuesday, February 28, All Stars Project of Chicago welcomed its 2012 Development School for Youth (DSY) class. The Orientation Ceremony, held at Latham & Watkins in the Willis Tower, recognized this year's students as they begin their journey to develop professional performances and interact with members of the business community. More than 85 family members, friends, business partners, and All Stars volunteers came out to support our students, four of whom spoke about what this opportunity means to them.

On Thursday, March 15, All Stars Project of the San Francisco Bay Area held its 2012 Phat Friend Award Ceremony at the California Historical Society. The honorees were community and business leaders selected by All Stars youth in appreciation for the difference they make in the lives of Bay Area young people. The Youth Selection Committee was chaired by Makalia Benson, a 2010 Development School for Youth graduate. The 2012 Phat Friend award recipients are Melissa Bergen, Senior Client Relationship Consultant, MetLife; Drew Jenkins, mentor and community organizer, T.U.R.F; Princess Kennard, teacher/mentor, Bret Harte Elementary School; La Wanda Marrero, Executive Director, Adnawal Foundation; Bayardo Rocha, member, Zulu Nation and dancer, Knuckle Neck Tribe; and Adrian Williams, Executive Director, the Village Project.
On Saturday, February 4, the All Stars Talent Show Network (ASTSN) kicked off the new year with an audition at Boys and Girls High School in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. Excitement filled the air as 400 young people from all over New York City comprised the 82-act audition. Longtime alumni and first-time ASTSN performers graced the stage giving a variety of performances ranging from solo acts to 20-30 person dance groups. Everyone made the show and received a giant CONGRATULATIONS! Also giving big performances that day were a cast of 55 volunteers that helped the event run smoothly.

The All Stars Project has signed a lease to create the country's first Center for Afterschool Development, which will be located in the heart of downtown Newark, NJ at 33 Washington Street. The center will be named for the late Scott Flamm, a dedicated volunteer with the All Stars inner-city youth development programs and a resident of Short Hills, NJ. The establishment of the center, a prime 9,000 square foot ground floor space on Washington Park, is the centerpiece of the All Stars Project's $9.2 million expansion campaign and will enable the All Stars to expand its world class, innovative programming in Newark and throughout NJ.
